Landline is building ground connectivity infrastructure that enables passengers to clear security and check in for flights before reaching the airport. Operating on behalf of American Airlines, Air Canada, and other major carriers, Landline integrates booking, secure transport, and baggage handling into a single ticket across a growing North American network.
As a Software Engineer on the Connected Fleet & Operations team, you will own the field software layer that powers Landline's 24/7 live operation. This includes the driver app at the center of every trip, handheld tools for station staff to run their shifts, and backend connections to booking systems and the operations platform that keep everyone in sync in real time.
Key responsibilities:
- Own the driver app and handheld tools used by frontline staff for scanning, verification, photo capture, and real-time status updates
- Design flows that work in real field conditions: offline use, glare, gloves, one-handed operation
- Integrate device capabilities (camera, barcode/NFC scanning, GPS) to make field events verifiable and auditable without slowing operations
- Integrate IoT and vehicle telematics platforms (e.g., Samsara) so vehicle, device, and operational data flow into one real-time operational picture
- Work across the platform stack—from booking flows to dispatch visibility to operations backend—ensuring field tools and core systems behave as one product
- Build and deploy agentic workflows using LLM-driven tooling in both development and production
- Deploy forward: ride along with drivers, work station shifts at partner hub airports, and ship fixes within the week
You will work at hub airports and partner stations alongside Landline and airline partner teams, observing how the operation actually runs and iterating on problems in days rather than quarters. The team uses a modern, engineer-friendly stack and values speed, creativity, autonomy, and bias for action.
Requirements:
- Experience building for spotty connectivity and managing sync conflicts with offline-first instincts
- Device and IoT integration experience with camera, barcode/NFC scanning, and GPS
- Modern web fluency in a Next.js/Vercel environment, comfortable working across the stack
- Secure-by-design instincts; experience in security-regulated environments and federal-grade standards preferred
- Forward-deployed experience embedded with users or operations teams (FDE, solutions engineering, or internal tools in physical-ops businesses)
- Comfortable reaching into backend services or web frontends when needed
- Plus: telematics/IoT platform experience (Samsara or similar), rugged devices, BLE sensors, agentic/automation experience, travel/logistics startup background, or familiarity with regulated data environments
