OpenAI's Browser Use team is seeking a product-oriented software engineer to build and scale cloud computer infrastructure that enables AI agents to interact with browsers and computers across products including ChatGPT for Chrome, the in-app browser, and cloud computer features in ChatGPT Work.
In this role, you will own the design and deployment of systems that provision, run, and manage cloud environments for agent-controlled browsers and computers. Key responsibilities include:
- Building and scaling infrastructure for running agent-controlled browsers and computers in the cloud
- Developing services for provisioning environments, managing sessions, and coordinating their lifecycle
- Improving reliability, performance, resource utilization, and observability across the fleet
- Diagnosing issues across Linux, containers, networking, and browser execution
- Building APIs and tooling that make cloud computers accessible to research and product teams
- Working closely with research teams to understand emerging requirements and improve computer-use capabilities
- Developing authentication, credential management, and network access controls that protect user data and support interactions with websites and services
This role combines infrastructure depth with close attention to user experience. You'll partner across research, engineering, and product teams to bring new computer-use capabilities into production, working across container orchestration, backend services, and product experiences.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience leading large-scale backend, platform, or infrastructure projects from ambiguous problem statements to production systems
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, TypeScript, or similar, with ability to move across service, platform, and product boundaries
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and production reliability
- Demonstrated ability to own systems from initial design through deployment and scale
- Comfort with a fast-moving pace while maintaining focus on security and operational excellence
- Experience with browser automation, remote computing environments, or infrastructure for AI agents is especially relevant
