Dots (an OpenAI product) is hiring a Backend Engineer to build the systems powering its product. You'll collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to transform ideas into reliable, production-ready services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs
- Develop data models and optimize database performance
- Integrate with third-party services
- Improve system reliability, security, and observability
- Write tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews
- Investigate and resolve production issues at their root cause
- Help shape technical decisions as the product scales
This role is ideal if you have:
- Production experience building and operating backend applications
- Strong proficiency in a backend programming language
- Solid understanding of API design, relational databases, and data modeling
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, automated testing, and deployment workflows
- Ability to balance speed with quality and make pragmatic technical decisions
- Clear communication and collaborative problem-solving skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with distributed systems, background jobs, and event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with caching, queues, and performance optimization
- Experience working on small teams or early-stage products
Requirements:
- Production backend application experience
- Strong backend programming language proficiency
- API design, relational databases, and data modeling knowledge
