Mirage is an AI video company building generative media tools that make creative work dramatically easier. The company develops multimodal AI agents, rendering engines for video composition, and foundation models for video generation. Their flagship product, Captions, is a creative workspace for AI-assisted video editing; they also offer Tesseract (a professional video engine for AI agents) and APIs for developers.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will own critical backend systems end-to-end, working across product, platform, and machine learning infrastructure. You'll partner closely with product, design, client, and AI teams to turn ambitious ideas into reliable, scalable production systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and own backend systems end-to-end: services, APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure powering all product surfaces
- Solve complex technical challenges in distributed systems, scaling, concurrency, and performance
- Integrate and operate large generative AI models in production—deploying, serving, and scaling systems combining internal research and external capabilities
- Instrument, experiment, and iterate in production to continuously improve system and product quality
- Design and operate core platform infrastructure, including third-party integrations, storage systems, security, and internal APIs

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of professional industry experience
- Track record of shipping high-impact systems and/or products in production
- Exceptional problem-solving fundamentals and ability to learn
- Excellent engineering taste combined with strong practicality and time-management
- Ability to operate effectively in extremely fast-paced environments and scope/deliver projects end-to-end
Preferred qualifications:
- Extensive experience with LLMs, generative media models, and awareness of technology direction
- Grounded, collaborative approach; willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team win
- Background as a startup founder or early engineer at a startup
