Steelhead Technologies is building a cloud-based ERP platform purpose-built for manufacturing job shops—powder coaters, platers, anodizers, heat treaters, and fabricators. The platform provides real-time operational visibility, eliminates paper-based inefficiencies, and brings AI to the shop floor through features like automated order entry and intelligent reporting.
As a Software Engineer, you'll work on the core ERP system that powers metal finishing and fabrication shops across the country. Customers depend on Steelhead to run every part of their business: quoting, work orders, part tracking, inventory, job costing, and invoicing. This is their primary operational system, not a supplementary tool, which means the feedback loop is direct and immediate—ship something good and you hear about it from users; ship something off and you'll hear about it even faster.
You'll join a team of five engineers with a tech lead. The team sits together, enabling face-to-face collaboration and rapid question resolution. You'll own features end-to-end rather than working on isolated tickets. You won't wait for permission to tackle hard problems; you act as the product manager for what you build. Requirements flow from shops using the software through deployment specialists, support, and sales. You'll have significant input into how features work and will direct AI agents across the entire development cycle.
Key responsibilities include collecting requirements from multiple sources and leading development of large features, using AI-native development tools (Claude Code or Cursor), collaborating with tech leads on architecture and data model design, directing multi-agent development efforts, developing and executing comprehensive test plans, working with QA on testing feedback, and gathering feedback through operational logs and product metrics.
The tech stack is React, Node.js, TypeScript, Postgres, and GraphQL. The role is based in Calumet, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, with co-located team collaboration.
