Pharos is an AI-powered healthcare startup on a mission to improve patient safety in hospitals by automating quality reporting and helping clinicians identify and prevent avoidable harm. The company raised $5M in seed funding at the end of 2024 and is building AI systems to review clinical charts at scale, with the goal of preventing the ~100,000 avoidable deaths that occur annually in U.S. hospitals.
You will join as a founding member of the engineering team in a pivotal role bridging product vision and technical execution. This is a broad, end-to-end position where you'll own the full lifecycle of user-facing features—from technical design through deployment and monitoring. Your responsibilities include:
• Building and shipping core user-facing applications: an interface for users to review and correct AI-generated results, and an analytics/root-cause-analysis platform for visualizing clinical quality trends and drilling into patient safety events.
• Developing integrations with customer healthcare systems, third-party platforms, and healthcare data sources.
• Creating internal tools that accelerate clinical registry development and customer onboarding.
• Implementing full-stack features across front-end (React/TypeScript) and back-end (Node.js/Python) services.
• Managing CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure (GCP), and deployment processes.
• Acting as a product owner: rapidly prototyping ideas, gathering user feedback, and advocating for the best user experience.
• Collaborating closely with founders, designers, and the AI research team on complex, mission-critical problems.
The tech stack includes React and TypeScript on the front-end (Vite, TailwindCSS), Node.js and Python on the back-end, Cloud Spanner and Firestore for data, Google Cloud Platform for infrastructure (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub), and Protobuf for schema-first RPC contracts.
You'll work in a fast-moving, high-agency startup environment where there's no rigid hierarchy, everyone wears multiple hats, and you have real power to shape the company's direction. The role offers significant equity as a founding team member, the opportunity to develop expertise at the intersection of product, design, and cutting-edge AI, and the chance to directly impact patient outcomes at scale.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum:
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record of building and shipping user-facing products.
• Deep expertise in modern web technologies: front-end framework (React, Vue), TypeScript, design systems, and document databases.
• Production experience deploying and maintaining applications in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Strong product intuition and design sense; care deeply about the 'why' behind what you're building and the user experience.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred:
• Previous experience as an early-stage employee at a startup, demonstrating ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience designing and building production LLM-powered systems from the ground up (evaluation, orchestration, retrieval, reliability).
• Familiarity with healthcare data, electronic health records (EHRs), or interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7).
