Salary: USD 72,000 - 140,000 / annual
Fabric8Labs is pioneering additive manufacturing with proprietary electrochemical 3D printing technology for semiconductors, aerospace, and medical devices. The company operates a distributed production environment: printers and edge compute nodes on the shop floor, PostgreSQL clusters holding machine telemetry and process data, and cloud services on GCP.
You will build and own the software layer connecting printers to operators and business systems. This is a hands-on role with direct feedback: when your dashboard is wrong, someone walks over and tells you; when it's right, you watch a build finish because of it.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and maintain internal applications, dashboards, and services powering manufacturing workflows
- Design PostgreSQL schemas and write queries and migrations; you own how the application uses the database
- Implement Python backend services and control logic interacting with printers and edge devices in real time
- Build integrations between shop-floor systems and ERP: work order flow, material and lot tracking, part master data, production reporting
- Ensure traceability for customers and auditors: records proving which machine ran which job with which material lot
- Work directly with hardware engineers, materials scientists, operators, and business stakeholders to translate pain points into working software
- Contribute to code reviews, CI/CD, and engineering standards
The role requires 100% onsite presence in Sorrento Valley, San Diego; the software you write runs against machines in the building.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have:
- 4+ years building and shipping production software
- Strong Python (primary language for backend services and hardware interaction)
- Real PostgreSQL depth: schema design, understanding query plans, diagnosing slow queries
- Comfortable in Linux for development, deployment, and debugging
- JavaScript for building practical, usable interfaces
- Ability to sit with operators or materials scientists, understand underlying problems, and build the right solution
Strengthens your application:
- MES or ERP systems experience, particularly building integrations; fluency with work orders, routing, operations, WIP, BOM, lot/serial genealogy
- GCP in production: Cloud SQL, IAM, VPC, hybrid cloud-to-on-premise connectivity
- Building with AI tooling: LLM APIs, agentic workflows, internal AI-assisted tools
- Hardware/software integration, real-time systems, or industrial equipment experience
- Docker, CI/CD pipelines, or Kubernetes
- Flutter for cross-platform operator-facing apps
