Eli Lilly is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Software Product Engineering (SPE) team in Hyderabad, building AI-powered application features and agentic workflows that support drug discovery, clinical trials, and enterprise operations at global scale.
You will design, build, and maintain backend services and agent orchestration logic primarily in Go or Python, integrating large language models (LLMs) and orchestration frameworks like LangChain and LangGraph. Your responsibilities include:
• Building and maintaining AI-powered features and agentic workflows using LLMs, tool/function calling, and orchestration frameworks
• Developing backend services, APIs, and agent orchestration logic in Go or Python
• Integrating LLM APIs and AI services into products, handling prompting, context management, evaluation, and guardrails
• Building lightweight React interfaces to surface AI features and agent interactions to users where needed
• Collaborating with backend engineers, product, design, and engineering teams to deliver seamless, high-quality solutions
• Using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate delivery and improve code quality
• Participating in code reviews and contributing ideas to improve engineering practices
• Analyzing and debugging software and AI/agent behavior to enhance performance, reliability, and maintainability
• Embracing opportunities to learn new AI techniques, technologies, and tools
You will succeed by applying modern AI engineering workflows (prompt design, evaluation, iteration), writing clean and well-tested backend code, integrating LLMs via APIs, implementing tool-calling and multi-step agent orchestration, building and measuring RAG pipelines, and demonstrating strong communication and collaboration skills.
Lilly's Hyderabad office builds cloud platforms, AI systems, and automation at enterprise scale in service of advancing medicine and patient care. Technology at Lilly is not a support function—it is how the global medicine company operates, innovates, and delivers.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 2–4 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including recent hands-on work building AI/LLM-powered or agentic applications
• Proficiency in Go or Python as primary language
• Practical experience with at least one agentic or LLM orchestration framework (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen) or equivalent custom agent workflows
• Experience building RAG pipelines with embeddings and vector stores (e.g., pgvector, OpenSearch, Pinecone, FAISS)
• Hands-on experience calling LLM APIs (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, OpenAI) and prompt engineering
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and backend services
• Exposure to version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts
• Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor)
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn new technologies
PLUS (preferred/bonus):
• Familiarity with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript for building AI-facing UIs
• Experience writing concurrent, high-performance backend services in Go
• Exposure to AWS, including AI/ML services (Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker) and containerization (Docker/EKS)
• Familiarity with LLM evaluation and observability tooling (e.g., LangSmith) and techniques for reducing hallucination
• Awareness of responsible AI practices: data privacy, prompt/output safety, and model limitations
• Experience with TypeScript, Material-UI, or other component libraries
• Experience with unit testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Go testing, pytest)
• Interest in contributing to open-source projects or tech communities
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and SDLC
• Experience in regulated industries (e.g., Life Sciences)
