Asana is seeking a Software Engineer to join the AI Teammates Platform (AITP) team, which owns the execution engine and platform layer powering Asana's flagship AI innovation—autonomous agents embedded directly into enterprise workflows. These AI Teammates reason, act, and proactively drive work forward across the platform.
The AITP team builds core systems behind agentic execution, including model evaluation and rollouts, proactive detection of blocked work, execution quality infrastructure, tool orchestration, and platform APIs that power AI across Asana engineering. Rather than building monolithic features, the team constructs a composable foundation that enables reasoning, action, and autonomous improvement across the product.
In this role, you will contribute to a high-performance, dynamic team focused on velocity and software quality. You'll work on a complex, market-leading SaaS application and gain deep exposure to Asana's core infrastructure, particularly how data is represented, stored, and deleted in the storage layer. You'll work with asynchronous jobs and implement algorithms that efficiently traverse the Asana Work Graph. You'll partner with legal and other teams to implement data ownership rules through simple, effective technical solutions. You'll drive large, impactful projects delivering features rolled out to large organizations and support cross-functional stakeholders.
Asana is a leading platform for human + AI collaboration, with millions of teams worldwide relying on it to achieve their goals faster. The company has been named to Fortune's Best Workplaces for 7+ years and recognized by Fast Company, Forbes, and Gartner for excellence in workplace culture and innovation.
The role is based in the San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. Standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most employees have the option to work from home on Wednesdays, with Friday flexibility depending on work type and team partnerships.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience working within large, well-maintained codebases
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional partners (PM, design)
- Sound judgment balancing speed with code quality and long-term maintainability
- Passion for creating exceptional user experience with attention to detail
- Care deeply about productivity and helping teams collaborate more effectively
- Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with willingness to learn and leverage them
