OfferUp's Connect team owns the infrastructure that powers buyer-seller interactions on the platform: messaging, notifications, location services, meetups, and subscription systems. The team runs high-volume Java microservices and streaming pipelines, integrates with third-party platforms (Braze, Amazon Pinpoint, Apple, Google), and uses experimentation to drive product decisions. Recent high-impact projects include building OfferUp's video infrastructure for listing videos and LLM-powered catalog enrichment on Amazon Bedrock.
As a Software Development Engineer II, you will own features end-to-end from concept through rollout. You'll design and build backend services and event-driven pipelines, improve reliability and latency of messaging and notification systems, integrate with third-party platforms, and collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and mobile engineering teams. You'll participate in A/B testing, conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, create shared components to improve team velocity, maintain monitoring and alerting for your services, and participate in on-call rotation. The role emphasizes shipping quickly, learning from production, and using AI coding tools (Claude, Gemini) to increase development velocity.
OfferUp is a top-10 shopping app in the US with 15%+ monthly active users in major markets. Founded in 2011 and based in Bellevue, WA, the company is backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Warburg Pincus, and GGV Capital.
