Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Software Developer (SRE) to join the CloudVision as a Service (CVaaS) team in Bengaluru. You will be responsible for building, deploying, and operating critical production systems at global scale, with a focus on scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and security.
The CloudVision platform is deployed on Kubernetes across global regions using Spinnaker for CI/CD. The tech stack includes GKE, HBase/Hadoop for distributed storage, ElasticSearch for search, ClickHouse for real-time analytics queries, a Kafka-based distributed stream processing layer, and TensorFlow for ML analysis. Monitoring is built on Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and other open-source tools.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build, deploy safely and incrementally, and operate critical production systems with emphasis on scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and security
- Monitor, support, and enhance product deployment experience across services
- Build automation to remove toil and efficiently operate production systems
- Proactively monitor, respond to, and enhance alerts; set up automated alert handling
- Create and maintain incident response runbooks
- Build and deploy new systems with scalability, reliability, and observability as primary requirements
- Triage platform and infrastructural issues; assist Arista software engineers and engage with third-party vendor support
- Deploy new systems in a staged manner
- Write postmortem documents and build solutions to prevent incident recurrence
- Plan and communicate maintenance windows on production systems
- Work with product development teams to identify infrastructural bottlenecks and design solutions
- Survey and adopt best practices for secure, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems
- Implement solutions to scale systems and improve availability
- Study design and implementation details of open-source systems for better triage and resolution

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering plus 5+ years of experience, OR Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering plus 5+ years of experience, OR equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of one or more of: Go, Python, bash shell scripting (to implement medium-complexity automation workflows)
- Linux (or UNIX) knowledge from administration and debugging perspective
- Hands-on experience operating software systems (infrastructure, complex applications) at scale
- Experience with server provisioning (especially storage and networking perspective)
- Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code
Desirable skills:
- Database management experience (PostgreSQL or equivalent RDBMS)
- Docker and virtualization technologies
- Monitoring stack management (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Artifactory or Docker registry management
- CI/CD systems experience (GitLab tools, Spinnaker)
- Infrastructure-as-code frameworks (Terraform)
- Container orchestration via Kubernetes
