Poseidon Aerospace is building full-size autonomous cargo aircraft capable of carrying two tons of payload over a thousand nautical miles. The company operates from the San Francisco Bay Area with additional locations in Washington DC, Oregon, and Maine.
As a Simulation, Test and Validation Engineer, you will own the hardware-in-the-loop benches, simulation environments, and automated validators that every flight software release and avionics hardware must pass before deployment on aircraft. You will be the gatekeeper ensuring faults are caught on the ground, not in flight.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining hardware-in-the-loop benches with flight computers, actuators, sensors, and power hardware
- Maintaining software-in-the-loop environments and real-time simulation driving the benches
- Integrating vehicle, sensor, and actuator models from GNC and flight sciences teams into simulation
- Writing automated validators that evaluate simulation, bench, and flight data against requirements
- Building automated regression testing for each flight software release through simulation and hardware-in-the-loop
- Developing fault injection scenarios for sensor, actuator, data bus, and power failures
- Creating data pipelines and analysis tooling for test and flight data
- Designing and executing environmental and durability tests on aircraft hardware (vibration, thermal, ingress)
- Integrating instrumentation and data acquisition on test rigs
- Writing test plans and procedures from requirements and failure mode analyses
- Investigating test anomalies and driving root cause analysis with owning teams
- Supporting ground test and flight test operations with validators and data analysis, including travel to flight test sites
You will work cross-functionally with nearly every engineering team, identify problems before anyone else, and directly influence how fast the program can safely fly.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or computer engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years testing complex electromechanical or embedded systems
- Proficiency in Python and working knowledge of C or C++
- Experience building or operating hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, or automated test systems
- Hands-on electrical debugging skills and familiarity with common vehicle data buses
PREFERRED:
- Test experience on aircraft, UAS, spacecraft, or automotive systems
- Experience with real-time simulation platforms (Speedgoat, dSPACE, NI)
- Environmental testing experience to DO-160 or MIL-STD-810
- Experience with actuators, motor controllers, or power systems
- Continuous integration experience for embedded software
- FMEA and reliability analysis familiarity
- Flight or vehicle test data analysis experience
