Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following a $200M Series B at a $1.4B valuation, the company is expanding teams to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces.
You will join the Tooling team as a Simulation Engineer responsible for integrating physical models of drones into the simulator. This includes aerodynamics, propulsion, electronics, sensors, and electromechanical systems. You will translate user needs from domain experts, integrate models into the simulator software stack, validate behavior against reference data, and establish appropriate fidelity targets across different use cases.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate with domain expert teams (aerodynamics, propulsion, electronics, sensors, electromechanical) to understand their models, assumptions, inputs/outputs, and delivery mechanisms to the simulator
- Integrate models into the simulator software stack in a clean, performant, and maintainable way with clear interfaces and configurable parameters
- Define and run validation tests against reference data (flight logs, bench tests, manufacturer data) and report discrepancies to model owners
- Work with simulator users (GNC, Embedded, Validation teams) to understand use cases and translate them into realism targets for each model
- Balance fidelity, performance, and integration effort; prioritize model integration work accordingly
- Document integrated models, parameters, validity domains, and validation results; help standardize model integration and validation processes
This role offers high ownership and the opportunity to work at the intersection of physics, software engineering, and AI robotics with direct mission impact.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, simulation, or related engineering field
- Good understanding of flight dynamics and physics background sufficient to discuss models with experts in aerodynamics, propulsion, electronics, sensors, and electromechanical systems, and translate their models into working code
- Experience integrating third-party models or components into larger software systems and validating them against experimental data with rigorous approach
- Comfortable with C++ and Python; good knowledge of Linux environments
- MSc or BSc in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or similar technical field; equivalent professional experience equally valued
Nice to have:
- Experience with drones or robotic systems, ideally with open-source autopilots like PX4 or ArduPilot
- Hands-on experience with flight testing, test benches, or log analysis
- French language skills
