Apex manufactures satellite buses at scale for the commercial space industry, combining software, vertical integration, and hardware designed for manufacturing. These platforms enable earth observation, communications, and other critical space-based services. As a Simulation Engineer, you will own the development of closed-loop spacecraft test platforms—including six degrees of freedom simulation (6DOF), software-in-the-loop (SITL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) systems. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and validating simulation environments that verify the performance, functionality, and reliability of satellite systems before deployment. Key responsibilities include: - Owning closed-loop spacecraft simulation platforms from initial design through deployment - Developing and maintaining core simulation capabilities such as scheduling, data routing, diagnostics, configuration, and Monte Carlo analysis - Creating and maintaining simulation models, emulators, and hardware/software interfaces with units under test - Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to define test requirements, procedures, and execution strategies - Analyzing test data, identifying trends, and generating insights for model improvements - Developing automation tools for simulation workflows, data analysis, and test reporting - Debugging complex closed-loop interactions between test units and simulation environments - Contributing to long-term technical architecture and roadmap for simulation platforms You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment alongside multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technicians, with a focus on practical, scalable solutions to complex problems. QUALIFICATIONS: - U.S. Person status required (access to export-controlled data) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred) - 3+ years of experience developing closed-loop simulation tools (6DOF, SITL, PITL, HITL) - Strong proficiency in C/C++, Rust, and Python - Comfortable operating and developing within Linux environments - Familiarity with standard software development practices: testing frameworks, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, agile development - Experience designing, implementing, and validating physics-based simulation models for closed-loop systems - Experience emulating and integrating virtual sensors, actuators, and test equipment with serial, network, and conventional I/O interfaces - Experience with data analysis techniques, automation tools, and pipeline development - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail - Excellent verbal and written communication - Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables - Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in aerospace or satellite industry - Knowledge of satellite subsystems (sensors, actuators, controls, communications, power) - Experience engineering complex systems requiring precise timing, deterministic execution, and high performance (real-time, HPC systems) - Experience developing and maintaining complex build systems, virtual test environments, and CI/CD infrastructure - Knowledge of embedded Linux or real-time operating systems
