Looma is an in-store digital media platform that helps retailers modernize and monetize their stores through storytelling, education, and recommendations. The company operates a network of in-store screens and works with a global network of independent creators (Relay™) to produce point-of-decision content.
You will join a small product team as a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to build Looma's Marketplace product—software that serves advertisers and retailers. This is a product-minded engineering role where you'll move quickly with minimal hand-holding, work backend-first across the full stack, and use AI coding agents effectively to accelerate delivery.
Key Responsibilities (split across three areas):
**Marketplace Product Delivery (55%):** Own and ship Marketplace features end-to-end, translating business needs from advertisers, retailers, and internal stakeholders into production software. Work backend-first with Go services, GCP, Postgres, Redis, and BigQuery; contribute to the Angular frontend as needed. Partner closely with a Product Manager, Product Designer, and backend contractor to move from ambiguity to shipped software. Learn from production, correct course pragmatically, and maintain craftsmanship.
**Engineering Quality & Architecture (25%):** Evolve the backend from a conventional API-and-database model toward asynchronous workflows, queues, concurrency, intelligent caching, and clearer service boundaries—without prematurely forcing microservices. Improve branch protections, CI/CD consistency, automated integration testing, observability, and performance dashboards. Make pragmatic code-review decisions: rewrite to demonstrate better patterns, coach teammates, or establish reusable standards. Keep velocity high while paying down technical debt that constrains delivery and reliability.
**Integrations, Data & Internal Tooling (20%):** Own integrations, data pipelines, infrastructure, and internal tooling supporting Marketplace and adjacent business needs. Debug cross-system failures and build pragmatic automation that makes the team faster and more dependable. Apply AI-assisted engineering workflows with clear plans, review gates, and verification. Contribute across repositories when business priorities need engineering leverage.
You will work with a modern stack: GCP, Go, BigQuery, Postgres, Redis, and Angular. Experience with every tool is not required; strong engineers should learn quickly.
Compensation includes base salary, stock options, and cash/equity flexibility. Benefits: gold-tier health/dental/vision, unlimited PTO (3-week minimum), flexible office setting with stipends, craftsmanship stipend, paid parental leave, and 401(k).
**Requirements:**
- Independently built and shipped meaningful production software in a small, ambiguous environment
- Materially raised engineering quality of an existing production codebase while continuing to ship features
- High ownership, bias to action, strong product judgment, user empathy, technical curiosity, and humility
- Deeply AI-native: routinely delegate implementation to coding agents and build verification loops that produce sound outcomes
- Make pragmatic speed-versus-quality calls, raising standards without using perfection as a reason to stop shipping
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
