Cortea is a Berlin-based AI startup transforming the audit industry. The company uses AI-powered software and specialized AI agents to automate repetitive, document-heavy audit work, freeing expert auditors to focus on high-judgment tasks. Backed by top-tier VCs with over €15M in funding, Cortea has a working product and paying customers and is scaling rapidly.
You will be an experienced full-stack engineer who can own complex audit workflows end-to-end. The role spans frontend, backend, data modeling, and AI agent development. You'll build the interfaces auditors use daily, develop and improve the LLM agents at the product's core, create reliable long-running workflows with fast failure detection, and drive technical decisions through RFCs and architectural discussions.
The engineering team is small and flat—strong individual contributors who solve problems directly rather than through process. Everyone owns real product and architecture decisions. You'll work on problems with no established reference implementation, shipping first versions that actually work. You're expected to use AI heavily in your own workflow to move faster while maintaining high standards for what ships.
Key responsibilities include: building complex, intuitive UI in partnership with design; developing and improving LLM agents, harnesses, and evaluation pipelines; ensuring long-running workflows are reliable and debuggable; making architectural decisions and weighing trade-offs; and partnering with product on strategy while owning technical execution.
The tech stack includes React, TypeScript, Tailwind, TanStack on frontend; Python, Postgres, Temporal, Kafka, Redis on backend; GCP and Azure for infrastructure; and Kubernetes for orchestration.
Cortea values first-principles thinking, speed, trust, and kindness. The team works together in the Berlin office with team lunches, retreats, and flexible vacation.
