Heron Power is a startup building cutting-edge power electronics for grid modernization, focusing on scalable converters (inverters and rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and datacenters to the grid. The leadership team has designed and shipped gigawatts of power conversion products.
As a Senior/Staff Electronics Design Engineer, you will architect, design, and integrate low-voltage electrical systems within high-performance power converters. You will own the full hardware development lifecycle from requirements definition through production support, including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, testing, and validation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and implement cabinet-level LV electrical architecture, including microprocessors, power supplies, power distribution, interconnects, and signal processing
- Select appropriate LV components (microcontrollers, interface circuits, fuses, relays, contactors, terminal blocks, power supplies) based on system requirements and reliability targets
- Create system block diagrams, schematics, and harness documentation for cross-functional teams
- Ensure electrical interface integrity across PCBs, sensors, actuators, and communication buses (CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, analog/digital I/O)
- Collaborate with mechanical teams on enclosure layout, cable routing, shielding, and grounding for EMI/EMC performance
- Support validation and bring-up during prototype and production builds, including DVT and integration testing
- Ensure compliance with UL, CE, and IEC safety and regulatory standards
- Coordinate with firmware, test, and manufacturing teams on system integration and serviceability
The company emphasizes collaborative, first-principles engineering in a dynamic environment conducive to technical and career growth.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in low voltage electrical system design, including cabinet-level LV architecture and component design, ideally in energy, automotive, or industrial control applications
- Strong knowledge of cabinet-level LV power distribution and signal architecture
- Experience selecting and integrating LV components (relays, fuses, terminal blocks) for multi-voltage systems (12V, 24V, 48V)
- Familiarity with harness design, connector systems, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Understanding of EMC best practices and grounding/shielding techniques
- Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (e.g., Altium)
- Hands-on experience debugging and validating electrical systems using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and similar tools
- Experience with manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability (DFM), volume production, and development of manufacturing test procedures
Nice-to-haves include: LV systems in high-voltage environments, fieldbus protocols (CAN, industrial Ethernet), UL/IEC compliance knowledge, wiring harness creation and cable assembly management, cross-functional design experience, failure mode analysis, and safety-critical system design.
