Zipline is the world's largest autonomous drone delivery service, operating on four continents and completing millions of deliveries of blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products. The company has safely flown over 140 million commercial autonomous miles and is redefining global logistics infrastructure. You will own the end-to-end electrical architecture for Zipline's P2 charging towers, from site stub-up to charging docks. This is a hands-on, commercially-minded role that bridges technical rigor, field deployment, and financial strategy. You are not just designing a system that works—you are designing a system that scales globally while fitting budget constraints. Key responsibilities: • Design power distribution and cable harnesses for charging towers, documenting complex wire runs between docking stations and site infrastructure using tools like RapidHarness or NX. • Own the Bill of Materials (BOM) for tower electrical systems and perform trade-off analyses on material choices and routing efficiencies to reduce costs without compromising safety or reliability. • Lead regulatory sign-off processes with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), ensuring designs meet National Electrical Code (NEC) standards and achieve UL-listed raceway certification. • Build and present data-backed arguments comparing design iterations, defending architectural choices based on cost, deployment ease, and long-term reliability. • Support on-site deployments to ensure theoretical designs translate accurately to real-world installation. This is not a desk-only role. Requirements: • Hands-on experience pulling large-diameter power cables (1-inch+) and understanding physical constraints like bend radii and conduit fill. • Professional experience designing industrial electrical systems, including UL508a, UL67, heavy machinery wiring, or complex infrastructure projects. • Expert-level knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and experience navigating UL certification processes for industrial equipment. • Expertise in power distribution panels, conduits, wire trough, industrial ethernet cable design, and site-level electrical stubs (not board-level PCBAs). • Proficiency in RapidHarness or equivalent harnessing software for designing ruggedized, outdoor-rated cable assemblies. • Proven ability to perform financial trade-off studies and calculate ROI of design changes. • Willingness to get hands dirty and thrive in field environments during deployments. Nice to have: • Mechanical CAD skills to ensure electrical components integrate seamlessly into tower structures. • Project management experience managing contractors or field technicians during infrastructure phases.
