Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the EOS Platform Independent (PI) Layer 2 and Network Services team. This global team is responsible for building innovative and scalable solutions across Layer 2 protocols (802.1X, LACP, MACsec, Multi-chassis LAG, STP) and network management and security services (AAA, TACACS/RADIUS, DHCP, DNS, IP Locking, Logging, SNMP, SSH/OpenSSL, ZTP). The team also develops network monitoring software using sFlow and IPFIX, and device configuration tools via CLI, RPC/REST APIs, and SDKs. Solutions are deployed in the largest Campus, Cloud provider, Enterprise, and Service Provider networks globally. In this role, you will architect, design, develop, and maintain Layer 2, network management, monitoring, and security features using C, C++, and Python. You will understand requirements from customers, product managers, and field engineers, then write functional specifications. You will author test plans, build automated tests and infrastructure, and own all aspects of development and delivery. You will provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with System Test Engineers to analyze and resolve problems. You will also work with support engineers and customers to troubleshoot and resolve network issues. REQUIREMENTS: - BS in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering + 6 years experience, OR MS + 4 years experience, OR Ph.D. + 3 years experience, OR equivalent work experience - Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python - Software development experience with Linux - Knowledge of Layer 2 protocols (802.1X, MACsec, LACP, STP, etc.) OR knowledge of network management and monitoring protocols (AAA, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, sFlow, IPFIX, OpenConfig, etc.) - Understanding and ability to apply software engineering principles - Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills - Demonstrated technical leadership, strong communication skills, and ability to work in small team environments - Ability to design solutions and implement features independently - Hands-on experience developing networking or distributed systems software is a plus
