Salary: USD 196,000 - 227,000 / annual
Airbnb's Data Science team is seeking a Senior Web Software Engineer to build prototypes that showcase the potential of new data models and ML/AI innovations. You will partner closely with Data Scientists, Product, and Design teams to translate complex models into interactive, understandable prototypes that enable critical business decisions, user studies, and strategic planning.
In this role, you will co-develop prototypes with Data Scientists, identifying key questions and determining the most effective ways to answer them. You'll balance speed and realism in your implementation approach, choosing technologies and architectures that provide sufficient confidence as quickly as possible. You'll build APIs that provide data from backend systems for use in your own and other prototypes, and guide Data Scientists in building their own prototypes to demonstrate the value of proposed solutions.
Your work will span everything from designing effective data visualizations to focused explorations that solve specific design questions to broader explorations that validate new ideas. The prototypes you build will help close the gap between sophisticated, complex models and user-friendly experiences, enabling innovation to flourish across Airbnb's product portfolio.
This is a US Remote Eligible position. You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (check the careers page for the current exclusion list). The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with your manager.
**Requirements:**
- 6+ years of hands-on web development experience, particularly front-end development
- Strong understanding of data visualization fundamentals
- Expertise with TypeScript, JavaScript, and React
- Proficiency with low-level data visualization frameworks such as d3, visx, or WebGL
- Experience building custom interactions and novel user interface components
- Strong communication skills and experience working closely with Data Scientists and/or ML Engineers
- Bonus: Prior experience in a prototyping role
