CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer to join its cross-functional team developing next-generation communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.
In this role, you will own the design, analysis, and validation of thermal control systems for Cesium's advanced products. You will manage thermal designs across the full lifecycle—from initial concept and requirements definition through detailed design, simulation, manufacturing, testing, and qualification. Working closely with electrical and mechanical engineers, you will develop highly optimized, integrated thermal solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting thermal design and analysis at electronics, box, and system levels
- Building and correlating thermal resistance networks and reduced-order models with test data
- Performing radiative, conductive, and convective heat transfer analysis
- Developing analysis automation tools to streamline workflows
- Presenting engineering design reviews to customers and leadership
- Contributing to proposal-writing efforts
- Ensuring manufacturability and compliance with aerospace standards
You will need strong written and verbal communication skills to interface with stakeholders and present technical findings.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher in Mechanical, Thermal, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience in thermal/mechanical design and analysis using numerical and analytical techniques (Master of Science may count as 2 years)
- Expertise in electronics/PCBA, box, and system-level thermal design and analysis
- Strong proficiency in professional simulation tools (ANSYS preferred) or Thermal Desktop, and MCAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
- Strong mechanical engineering and heat transfer foundation
- Demonstrated experience designing and analyzing radiative, conductive, and convective heat transfer
- Experience building thermal resistance networks and reduced-order thermal models for complex systems
- Experience correlating thermal models with thermal chamber or TVAC test results
- Experience developing analysis automation tools (spreadsheet or script-based)
- Familiarity with common manufacturing processes for thermal control systems
- Familiarity with development of thermal control systems and fixtures for lab environments
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status (required by U.S. Government Space Technology Export Regulations)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Expertise in thermal management of phased array and/or high-power RF electronics
- Experience in thermal analysis of electronics at die, lead-frame, and package levels
- Proficiency with computational scripting languages (Matlab, Python, Mathematica, etc.)
