Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy intelligent systems at scale.
You will own testing for the compute box from first production units through serial production. This is a hands-on role where you define test strategy, build the first test stations and software, and own coverage, yield, and test time as manufacturing scales.
Key responsibilities:
- Define test strategy across PCBA, subassembly, box, and vehicle-install levels, including pass/fail criteria
- Design, build, and commission functional and end-of-line test stations: fixtures, interface hardware, instrumentation, and software
- Test critical interfaces: power sequencing, boot and provisioning, storage and memory, high-speed links, vehicle networks, thermal and burn-in, electrical safety
- Implement per-unit test data capture tied to serial number, with yield, retest rate, and test time reporting by station and failure mode
- Own first-pass yield: run fallout analysis, drive root cause with electrical, firmware, and manufacturing engineering teams, separate product failures from test escapes
- Drive design-for-test into the compute box: test points, firmware test modes, diagnostic hooks, connector access
- Write test work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and failure-mode library for technician teams; train technicians
- Release and version test programs against hardware and firmware revisions; maintain test currency through engineering change
The role is based in San Francisco with five-day-per-week onsite requirement. Travel to supplier sites is expected. Floor work requires PPE, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working at rack level and on vehicles.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 6+ years in manufacturing test, production test development, or hardware test engineering on electronic assemblies
- Compute or ECU manufacturing test experience in automotive, autonomous vehicle, or robotics programs
- Built a functional or end-of-line test station from scratch (fixture, interface hardware, instrumentation, software) through commissioning on a production line
- Strong Python for test automation and instrument control; comfort debugging from terminal in Linux environment
- Hands-on with electronics test equipment: programmable power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, data acquisition hardware
- Experience testing compute or embedded systems: boot, provisioning, storage, memory, high-speed interfaces
- Track record of using test data to raise yield and cut test time
- Ability to read schematics, probe and debug hardware, describe failures clearly to design engineers
- Ability to work onsite five days per week in San Francisco with supplier site travel
