Gravitics is building large-scale orbital structures for commercial space operations and government/defense missions. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support technical execution of a commercial spacecraft program from architecture development through qualification, integration, test, launch, and mission operations.
This role sits at the center of the program, working directly with Chief Engineers, subsystem leads, Program Management, Manufacturing, Integration & Test, Mission Assurance, and suppliers to ensure the spacecraft functions as an integrated system rather than a collection of independent subsystems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support development and management of spacecraft system architecture, requirements, interfaces, and verification approaches
- Translate mission and program objectives into clear subsystem and vehicle-level technical requirements
- Develop and maintain system specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), CONOPS, verification matrices, and technical baselines
- Drive technical integration across structures and mechanisms, pressure systems, propulsion systems, avionics and software, thermal systems, ECLSS/crew environment, docking and payload interfaces, and ground systems/GSE
- Support program technical reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, and mission readiness reviews
- Manage configuration and change control to maintain technical baseline integrity
- Ensure vehicle interfaces are clearly defined and controlled
- Verify that subsystems integrate cleanly into a functioning spacecraft
- Plan verification activities before hardware arrives at test
- Balance engineering decisions with program execution realities (schedule, manufacturability, integration flow, risk)
- Drive the program forward with increasing technical maturity and reduced integration risk
The ideal candidate is technically broad, execution-focused, comfortable in ambiguity, and able to balance engineering rigor with program realities. This position supports development of human-rated spacecraft systems and requires strong systems thinking, configuration discipline, verification planning, and cross-functional leadership.
Location: Primary offices in Seattle, WA and Colorado, with future travel/support to other company locations (including Cape Canaveral, FL and Houston, TX) as required.
Requirements:
The posting does not explicitly state years of experience or specific educational requirements in the excerpt provided. However, the role requires: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent resident status, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State (ITAR compliance). Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in spacecraft systems engineering, systems architecture, requirements management, and cross-functional technical integration in aerospace/defense environments.
