Salary: USD 244,000 - 305,000 / annual
Airbnb is seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer to join their Site Reliability Engineering team. This is a key technical leadership role focused on driving enterprise-wide SRE strategy and ensuring the reliability and performance of Airbnb's global infrastructure and products.
As a senior technical individual contributor, you will bring deep expertise in system architecture and infrastructure to solve broad technical challenges across the organization. You will work hands-on with code and architecture/design while also mentoring other Site Reliability Engineers and partnering with engineering leaders across the company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing a long-term reliability strategy and roadmap with a strategic vision for the organization
- Designing, implementing, and influencing company-wide SRE architecture, innovation, engineering standards, and best practices
- Creating scalable incident management processes that reduce operational toil and improve organizational response
- Fostering an SRE/reliability culture that emphasizes proactive thinking, pattern recognition, and continuous improvement
- Developing production readiness standards, automating processes, and advocating for reliable design patterns (circuit breakers, graceful degradation, etc.)
- Building deep partnerships with engineering leaders and product teams on large-scale distributed systems design
- Mentoring and upleveling other Site Reliability Engineers through servant leadership and advocacy
- Driving a blameless post-mortem culture to learn from incidents across the organization
You will be expected to remain hands-on, contributing code and participating in architecture decisions while also providing strategic technical direction and thought partnership to the broader organization.
Requirements:
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, related field, or equivalent work experience
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, with significant portion dedicated to system architecture and design in consumer-facing technology companies
- 5+ years of experience as a senior-level technical lead or architect, driving technical direction and strategy across multiple teams or projects
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with proven track record of working effectively across teams and organizations
- Demonstrated expertise in building and scaling high-availability systems and platforms with deep understanding of multi-cloud environments
