Salary: USD 225,000 - 275,000 / annual
Gusto is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead technical development of a new product within the Entity Management team. The Entity Management team builds and maintains tools that help small businesses manage their entire legal and compliance lifecycle, from incorporation through ongoing compliance, account monitoring, and dissolution. The team's mission is to simplify and automate complex compliance processes so business owners can focus on growth.
In this role, you will execute on the technical roadmap for a new product, collaborating with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Design, Customer Support, and Marketing to deliver high-quality solutions. You will mentor and guide engineers on the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Key responsibilities include developing the team's software development processes and technical approaches, driving implementation of new functionality in legacy systems to support the new customer base, serving as a technical leader who designs solutions and overcomes technical challenges, and participating in code reviews to maintain quality standards.

The San Francisco office is hybrid, with expectations to work from the office approximately 2-3 days per week. Travel to Gusto's Denver office for onboarding is required for this position.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, including experience leading greenfield product development
- Ruby on Rails, Typescript, and React experience preferred but not required
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Design, and Marketing
- Strong mentorship skills with a track record of fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within a team
- Experience acting as a technical leader, solving complex problems, and driving innovation
- Ability to develop and enhance the team's software development processes and technical approaches
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
