Salary: CAD 151,000 - 189,000 / annual
Diligent is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform AI team in Vancouver. You will drive the technical architecture and direction of AI/ML services that bring research and models into production across Diligent's global GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) SaaS platform.
In this role, you will lead through influence across the Platform AI organization, partnering with AI researchers, product managers, and peer Staff Engineers rather than managing individual contributors through reporting authority. You'll design secure, scalable, fault-tolerant AI/ML solutions using AWS Serverless technology with infrastructure-as-code practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Driving technical direction and architecture for ML/LLM systems across multiple AI platform teams
- Designing event-driven, highly observable AWS Serverless solutions that translate ML and LLM research into production-quality systems
- Evaluating and prototyping new AI technologies (LLM frameworks, model providers, agentic tooling) to guide build-vs-buy decisions
- Serving as the go-to technical contact for architecture problems across the Platform AI organization and presenting architecture guidance department-wide
- Mentoring Staff Software Engineers and Applied Scientists through code review and design partnership
- Collaborating with Applied Scientists and Product teams to productize AI capabilities, translating multi-quarter AI strategy into execution roadmaps
- Designing, building, and scaling search and retrieval systems including OpenSearch, semantic search, and vector search for discovery, RAG, and AI-driven product features
- Leading through ambiguity to help teams navigate undefined problems to successful delivery
Diligent is the AI leader in GRC SaaS, serving over 1 million users and 700,000 board members globally. The company has offices in New York, Washington D.C., Vancouver, London, Galway, Budapest, Munich, Bengaluru, Singapore, and Sydney. This role follows a hybrid work model with an expectation to work onsite at least 50% of the time if within commuting distance to a Diligent office.
**Requirements:**
- 10-15+ years of professional experience developing and owning high-scale, secure cloud applications, with demonstrated track record operating at Staff level across multiple teams
- Strong proficiency in Python and data science libraries/frameworks (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn) with code adhering to SOLID principles
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code practices in AWS (CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation) or similar
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, model evaluation, and RAG-based functionality
- Hands-on experience with search technologies, including OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, semantic search, and vector embeddings
- Experience with the full AI-based solution lifecycle, from research prototype to production system
- Demonstrated mentorship experience, including mentoring senior/staff-level engineers
- Passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others
- Understanding of customer governance challenges and commitment to improving decision-making
**Preferred:**
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related field
