Salary: USD 165,000 - 265,000 / annual
Waabi, founded by AI visionary Raquel Urtasun, is building Physical AI technology powering commercial autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The company is establishing a dedicated AI Technical Strike Team to centralize best practices for AI adoption across the organization.
In this role, you will design, build, and ship custom internal tooling, agents, and workflows that accelerate productivity across Waabi's teams. You will work on a mix of core tooling development and deployed engagements, partnering closely with functions across the company to understand pain points and co-design AI solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and ship custom internal tooling, agents, and workflows supporting autonomy codebases, simulation environments, ML training pipelines, research workflows, and business team automations
- Integrate and extend third-party AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, etc.), building integrations and internal extensions tailored to Waabi's needs
- Evaluate emerging AI tools, models, and agent frameworks; run structured pilots and provide technical recommendations for build-vs-buy decisions
- Partner directly with engineers, researchers, and business teams to prototype solutions quickly and iterate based on real usage
- Build observability around AI tooling—tracking usage, adoption, cost, and quality to inform prioritization
- Implement guardrails for responsible AI tooling in partnership with Security, Legal, IT, and Infrastructure
- Drive adoption through documentation, enablement, office hours, and hands-on support

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping tools, platforms, or products used by large internal or external user bases
- Deep, hands-on familiarity with current-generation AI coding tools and agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience building and shipping AI-powered products, agents, or workflows, including prompt engineering, evals, tool use, and integrating LLMs into production systems
- Strong proficiency in Python or another common programming language
- Comfort working across modern build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and developer infrastructure
- Strong product instincts: ability to identify high-leverage problems, scope pragmatic solutions, and ship things that get adopted
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable operating with high autonomy in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Passion for self-driving technologies, frontier AI, and using AI to maximize small, world-class teams
BONUS/NICE TO HAVE:
- Prior experience in developer productivity, platform engineering, or AI tooling roles, ideally with exposure to ML, robotics, or autonomous systems infrastructure
- Experience working effectively with non-engineering stakeholders (Finance, Commercial, Marketing, HR, Legal, Operations)
- Experience building AI workflows or automation for business functions outside engineering
- Experience deploying and operating AI systems in security- and IP-sensitive environments
- Contributions to open-source AI tooling, agent frameworks, or developer tools
