Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company that owns and operates the full stack from energy generation to AI workloads. The Cloud Engineering organization is scaling from 380 to 550 people, and this role establishes the Engineering Operations function to ensure the organization keeps two core promises to customers: capacity delivery on schedule and reliable performance.
You will be the first hire in Engineering Operations, starting as an individual contributor and building the operating system that enables Cloud Engineering leadership to align on outcomes, execute, and maintain accountability. Your core responsibilities include:
**Engineering Operations Programs**: Own standing programs including SLO/SLI definition and attainment, incident management and follow-up, change safety (policy, maintenance readiness, pre-production checks), capacity delivery tracking, and operational data. Partner with engineering leaders who own each program and hold the line on outcomes.
**Metrics & Data**: Define and track metrics that show how the organization runs, grows, builds, and enables itself—usable capacity, SLO attainment, MTTD/MTTR, customer-found incidents, on-time capacity delivery, milestone slip, change failure rate, follow-up closure rate, and change policy compliance. Build a single pane of glass that makes organizational health easy to understand at a glance.
**Accountability & Cadence**: Own the weekly executive Engineering Operations review, including systems, data, and pre-reads. Run the weekly operations planning forum and partner with Product on monthly business reviews. Make ownership explicit with clear accountable owners, swimlanes, and articulated outcomes. Hold teams to commitments, drive incident follow-ups and slipping milestones to closure, and escalate fast when owners need help.
**Function Growth**: Prove out the programs, metrics, and cadence as an individual contributor first. Make the case for headcount as scope outgrows one person, then help hire and onboard new team members. Own the evolution of the operating system itself, retiring processes that no longer earn their cost while keeping overhead on engineering teams low.
You will be a strategic advisor to leadership on whether teams are executing operationally and the person who makes clear owners, shared metrics, and steady cadence stick across the organization.
**Requirements**:
- 10+ years in software engineering, SRE, technical program management, or technical product role, with hands-on experience close to production systems
- Track record of leading org-wide programs at staff level or above, driving accountability across senior engineering leaders without formal authority
- Comfortable starting as a team of one; proven ability to drive impact independently
- Experience in high-growth infrastructure environments where processes are still being built; ambiguity does not paralyze you
- Natural coordinator who works across teams without formal authority; engineering, SRE, and product leads trust you because you follow through
- Ability to turn messy, multi-source data into clear organizational health pictures and identify the few metrics that drive decisions
- Experience designing operating rhythms (weekly reviews, business reviews, incident reviews) that leaders actually use
- Scrappy, low-ego, high-drive mindset; willing to build programs and tooling yourself when it doesn't exist
**Bonus qualifications**:
- Experience at AWS, GCP, Azure, CoreWeave, Lambda Labs, or similar cloud providers
- Experience running SLO, incident review, or change management programs at cloud or infrastructure companies
- Familiarity with incident.io, Opsgenie, PagerDuty, or similar incident management platforms at scale
- Background in AI/ML infrastructure
