Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company building the future of energy-efficient AI compute. The company owns and operates the full stack—from electrons to tokens—to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads, with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world.
As Senior Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, SCADA, you will own SCADA governance and drive the scaling strategy for deploying SCADA across Crusoe's assigned portfolio of data center projects, spanning modular, colocation, and hyperscale builds. You will define the standards and levers that ensure uniformity where it matters and flexibility where needed, giving the cloud team and downstream customers the operational data and telemetry required to run and improve data center performance.
This role demands deep technical ownership of telemetry and data governance and the control layer, paired with judgment to know when a standard approach should flex to meet specific project requirements. You will work directly with engineering peers to build approaches that vendor field teams can implement at speed, and you'll direct the documentation practices that keep vendor performance accountable across the pipeline. As a Staff-level engineer, you're expected to informally raise the technical bar for those around you, sharing knowledge and perspective with peers. This is a full-time position requiring an estimated 25% travel, varying by project needs and tied to escalation events, First of Kind (FOK) deployments, and direct vendor support.
Key responsibilities include: owning tag naming taxonomy and governing interfacing with the control layer across assigned SCADA deployments; providing guidance on version control system usage across active projects; drafting and maintaining governance documentation; partnering with engineering peers to develop flexible approaches while maintaining uniformity; validating that governance frameworks are realistically implementable by vendor field workforces; and serving as the subject matter expert for escalated or ambiguous documentation and governance questions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years of experience in mission-critical or related critical industrial control systems environments
- Deep mastery of the Ignition SCADA platform and version control systems as applied to industrial control projects
- Strong familiarity with hosting methodologies including containerization and orchestration alongside bare-metal deployment, plus fundamental understanding of server hardware and topologies
- Extensive knowledge of data center and industrial control protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP / RTU and BACnet IP / MS/TP, EtherNet/IP, and working knowledge of IEC 61850 and related IO protocols
- Working familiarity with OT/ICS security fundamentals, including concepts like the Purdue model and secure remote access practices
- Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders both inside and outside the department
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience developing mission-critical applications at scale within a hyperscale portfolio
- Experience actively owning or architecting OT security controls
- Working knowledge of Linux, containerization, and industrial networking
- Relevant certifications in industrial cybersecurity or SCADA-specific frameworks
