Salary: USD 241,000 - 266,000 / annual
Muon Space, an end-to-end space systems provider founded in 2021, is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the Simulation Infrastructure team. This team builds high-performance simulations of spacecraft and related systems that enable informed decision-making across mission proposals, design, manufacturing, and on-orbit operations.
You will grow the people, processes, and technical capabilities of a multidisciplinary team comprising physics-based modeling experts, product development engineers, and data analysts. Working closely with the team's architect and other engineering leaders, you will participate across all stages of the company's business—from proposal bidding to on-orbit mission performance analysis. Your focus will be defining and delivering best-in-industry simulation and analytic capabilities to support Muon's groundbreaking missions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing software engineers and scientists building critical numerical modeling infrastructure and performing comprehensive data analysis
- Synthesizing a far-reaching team roadmap aligned with Muon's priorities in collaboration with various partners
- Guiding execution of foundational projects to deliver optimal understanding of complex space system performance
- Developing and tracking quality and performance metrics to drive improvement in mission-critical systems
- Collaborating with leadership colleagues to architect organizational processes for long-term scalability
- Managing team capacity, staffing, and growth through hiring, coaching, and performance development
- Demonstrating responsible and compassionate leadership in a fast-growing, dynamic workplace
The position is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site at the San Jose, CA office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 5+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineering teams building production systems
- Demonstrated experience managing teams delivering on physical simulations and data analytics programs
- Domain expertise in applying physics-based modeling to design, implementation, behavior, and testing of complex hardware
- Proven track record managing teams building and maintaining reliable, scalable software tools
- Extensive experience with software project resource estimation and scheduling
- Accomplished history of hiring, training, and promoting software engineers and data scientists
- Significant development experience in languages such as C++, Python, TypeScript, or Julia
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with cross-functional stakeholders
Nice-to-have skills: familiarity with statistical analytic methods, failure analysis methods, Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) simulation testing, High Performance Computing (HPC) for physics simulations, event streaming and batch data processing pipelines, orbital dynamics knowledge, and space industry technology familiarity.
