Robinhood is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect, build, and scale backend services, infrastructure, and data systems supporting next-generation crypto, web3, and wallet offerings. You will provide technical leadership on distributed systems and correctness challenges in an environment where systems move real customer assets continuously.
The role spans three interconnected teams:
**Robinhood Wallet** builds non-custodial consumer products and self-custody experiences with seamless cross-chain trading capabilities, democratizing access to financial services via DeFi protocols and Robinhood Chain.
**Tokenization** brings public and private equity to be tradable 24/7 on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) across Robinhood Chain, building the connective tissue between traditional market infrastructure and on-chain systems—issuance, custody, and settlement.
**Robinhood Chain** designs and scales the underlying decentralized infrastructure, continuously improving the platform for trading real-world assets, building specialized smart contracts, and providing infrastructure services.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Architect, build, and operate resilient, highly scalable distributed systems and backend services across Robinhood Wallet, Tokenization, and Web3 platform infrastructure, with correctness, fault tolerance, and auditability as hard requirements.
- Drive architectural strategy and technical execution bridging traditional financial infrastructure (brokerage, ledgers, corporate actions) with on-chain systems, including smart contract integrations, chain indexers, and DEX trade flows.
- Provide technical leadership on large-scope, ambiguous engineering initiatives, breaking down complex multi-quarter efforts into clear architectural milestones.
- Partner closely with Product, Compliance, Security, and cross-functional leadership to define technical roadmaps and deliver high-impact solutions.
- Champion engineering excellence by mentoring engineers, leading rigorous design and code reviews, and raising the bar for system reliability, observability, and operational rigor across teams.
The role is based in Menlo Park, CA or New York, NY offices with hybrid attendance expected at least 3 days per week.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of software development experience with a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining distributed systems at scale.
- Deep expertise in backend development using Go, Python, or Java, alongside advanced knowledge of cloud-native, event-driven architectures.
- Strong mastery of system design, distributed data modeling, concurrency control, and scalability tradeoffs.
- Deep care and architectural experience with correctness-critical systems—idempotency, financial reconciliation, ledger consistency, and designing for failure modes when money is at stake.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience—driving alignment across cross-functional partners, unblocking complex technical roadblocks, and mentoring other engineers.
- Strong interest or hands-on experience with blockchain fundamentals—EVM, smart contracts, wallets, on-chain settlement, or decentralized infrastructure—and an appetite to tackle cutting-edge technical problems.
