Distributed Spectrum builds systems that power next-generation radio spectrum intelligence. The company collects radio data globally, trains neural networks to interpret it, and deploys them on embedded systems. The technical stack is built from scratch, including custom embedding model architectures, GPU kernels, and proprietary infrastructure. You will lead the design and delivery of the user-facing UI for the Distributed Spectrum product—the interfaces through which operators explore spectrum data, direct sensors, and collaborate with AI agents. This is a foundational role: you'll own the frontend architecture from the ground up and define how agentic capabilities integrate natively into the product experience, not as a bolted-on chat interface but as a core part of the workflow. Key responsibilities: - Drive product experience design from concept through shipped UI, owning the full lifecycle. - Lead frontend architecture decisions: application structure, state management, component libraries, design systems, build tooling, testing strategy, and performance budgets. - Integrate the UI deeply with agentic services and streaming responses, including tool-call visualization, human-in-the-loop approvals, real-time updates, and interfaces that remain legible when agents act on behalf of users. - Build high-performance visualizations of large, fast-moving datasets (spectrum data, maps, time series). - Partner with product, design, and backend engineers to shape requirements and translate ambiguous goals into concrete interfaces. - Establish frontend engineering standards, accessibility practices, testing frameworks, code review processes, and CI practices; help the team adopt them. The company values high ownership, intellectual honesty, adaptability, and collaborative problem-solving. You'll work with a talent-dense team with deep expertise in probabilistic ML, accelerated computing, embedded systems, and signal theory. REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of professional frontend/UI engineering experience shipping production web applications. - Strong, hands-on experience with both Angular and React; judgment to know when to use each. - Command of the modern UI stack: TypeScript, component-driven architecture, state management (Redux, Zustand, NgRx, signals), modern build tooling (Vite, esbuild), and testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Playwright, Cypress). - Demonstrated ability to design and build UI architecture from scratch—you've made foundational decisions on at least one significant product, not just contributed within an existing one. - Experience integrating with real-time and streaming backends (WebSockets, SSE) and designing UI for asynchronous, long-running operations. - Interest in and experience building interfaces for AI/agentic systems. - Strong product sense and attention to detail; you care how things feel, not just whether they work. NICE TO HAVE: - Experience with data visualization libraries (D3, deck.gl, WebGL/Canvas-based rendering) or mapping frameworks (Mapbox, MapLibre, Cesium). - Experience building design systems or component libraries used across multiple teams. - Familiarity with backend development (Node, Python) and cloud deployment of frontend assets. - Experience designing for operators in high-stakes or time-critical environments. ITAR REQUIREMENT: You must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
