Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy and operate autonomous systems at scale.
You will be a Senior Software Engineer responsible for building the log replay and scenario execution systems at the core of Atoms' simulation platform. Your work will span the entire pipeline: taking recorded logs from storage, converting them into replayable test cases, executing scenarios, and delivering scored results. You will own execution determinism, reporting, and the tooling that other engineers use to run scenario suites across on-road and off-highway programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building log replay pipelines: ingest, indexing, retrieval, and replay of recorded runs on demand. Implement open-loop scoring against ground truth and closed-loop replay where the simulated machine diverges.
- Scenario execution: build systems that run scenarios identically every time, including clock control, seed and configuration management, and results traceable to software versions.
- Continuous integration: integrate simulation into CI workflows (commit, nightly, regression) and maintain failure attribution.
- Metrics and reporting: implement pass criteria and metrics for releases, and create reporting that reduces failing runs to actionable lists.
- Scale and cost: run large batches efficiently, track simulation costs, and optimize as volume grows.
- Tooling: build interfaces, visualizations, and CLI tools that make the platform usable by engineers who didn't build it.
- Cross-functional collaboration: work with autonomy, robotics, bench, and hardware-in-the-loop teams on failure definitions and the path from simulation to vehicle.
The role is based in San Francisco with a five-day-per-week onsite requirement. You will occasionally travel to deployment and test sites.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of software engineering experience; OR Master's degree with 3+ years required.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, including ability to read, navigate, and debug large codebases.
- Experience building and operating data or test infrastructure at scale (pipelines, batch execution, storage, indexing).
- Experience with simulation, log replay, or large-scale automated testing for robotics or autonomous vehicles.
- Working experience with robotics middleware and its logging and replay tooling.
- Experience handling autonomous driving or robotics sensor data across multiple modalities and timestamps (camera, LiDAR, radar).
- Practical understanding of determinism and reproducibility (clock control, seed management, configuration pinning).
- Experience integrating test workloads into continuous integration.
- Working fluency with modern AI coding and agentic development tools.
- Clear written communication for design notes and test results.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to deployment and test sites.
