Salary: USD 168,000 - 266,000 / annual
Cloudflare's Security Platform team is an infrastructure and developer tools group responsible for building and operating powerful, resilient, and secure systems that enable other engineering teams to deliver products efficiently and securely. The team owns secrets management, internal certificate authorities/PKI, machine and workload identity, and related infrastructure.
As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will design and build secure, resilient distributed systems for secrets and key management running across Cloudflare's global network spanning 310+ cities in 120+ countries. Your primary focus will be strengthening and re-architecting internal PKI and machine/workload identity systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and operating secure distributed systems for secrets and key management
- Running and supporting systems in both operational and developer-facing capacities
- Participating in on-call rotation for emergency incident response
- Consulting on the design and architecture of new systems and products to ensure they are built securely and use your services correctly
- Helping internal developers adopt and use your infrastructure services
This is an infrastructure engineering and software development role, not a policy, audit, or compliance function. You will work on implementation-focused security challenges at scale.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Software development and distributed systems design expertise
- Linux/UNIX system administration proficiency
- Strong security background with focus on implementation (not policy/compliance)
BONUS/NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Track record contributing to open source security or distributed systems projects
- Cryptography background and ability to work with cryptosystems at the primitives level
- Experience with HSMs, TPMs, or platform TEEs (AMD SEV, Intel SGX, Apple Secure Enclave)
- Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault, OpenBao, or similar tools
- Experience with Go and/or Python + Salt
