Bitwarden is the leading open-source password management solution, serving individuals, teams, and enterprise organizations worldwide. The company is expanding its identity and authentication capabilities beyond traditional password management. You will join the Privileged Access Management team as a Senior Rust Engineer, owning the design, development, and maintenance of Rust SDKs and native applications consumed across Bitwarden's desktop and browser clients. Key responsibilities include: - Design and evolve the shared Rust SDK, including language bindings and FFI layers consumed by multiple product surfaces - Interface directly with OS-level APIs on Windows, macOS, and Linux to deliver native behavior and reliability - Improve performance, security, and maintainability of native integrations handling sensitive credential data - Partner cross-functionally with product, design, QA, and the Autofill team to deliver end-to-end experiences - Review pull requests and raise the quality bar for native/systems engineering, including community contributions - Identify technical debt and drive pragmatic refactoring and architecture improvements - Independently plan, estimate, and deliver feature work and bug fixes - Occasionally review and approve bug fixes from the open-source community This is not primarily a front-end or UI role; it requires deep systems-level expertise. Requirements: - 4–6+ years of production Rust experience in backend/systems engineering, including FFI and language bindings - Native desktop application experience with direct OS-level API integration on Windows, macOS, or Linux - Experience designing and versioning cross-platform SDKs or shared libraries consumed by multiple client surfaces - Experience using AI tooling in development and testing workflows (Anthropic Claude preferred) - Experience with Electron, TypeScript, and web tech for cross-platform desktop and web clients (preferred) - Collaborative and adaptable mindset with excellent communication skills - Passion for open-source software and internet security - Strong problem-solving abilities
