Adelphi Data is building the largest AI deployment platform for national security. The company has grown 10x in under two years and works directly with senior leaders at the Department of War and Intelligence Community to solve core bottlenecks in warfighting, intelligence, and enterprise operations.
As Senior Software Engineer, you will own technical direction and architectural decisions for the platform while writing a significant portion of its code. The core technology stack centers on Rust: a single binary serving as the AI/API gateway, policy engine, and Kubernetes controller, plus a separate Rust ingestion worker deployed in customer environments. The surrounding infrastructure includes Helm charts, Argo CD for GovCloud EKS clusters, Terraform for infrastructure, and Python internal tools. The role splits roughly 70% Rust application development and 30% DevOps/Kubernetes practice.
You will be expected to build, ship, and support mission-critical services and become productive in the codebase within weeks. The team is AI-native: every engineer leverages LLMs and AI tooling daily as an integral part of design, build, ship, and debug workflows. Experience in national security is a strong plus for understanding customer requirements and driving product roadmap decisions.
Clearance Note: An active U.S. Government Secret clearance is not required at hire, but candidates must be U.S. citizens eligible to maintain and upgrade clearances as needed. You must be excited to work for the Defense and Intelligence Communities and apply AI to real government applications.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of experience with meaningful time at Senior level or above
- Ownership of architecture for mission-critical production systems; systems thinking and comfort with ambiguity and high ownership
- Proficiency in Rust with shipped production services (async/tokio, hyper or axum, serde, strong error handling instincts)
- Proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Flask, or Django) and comfort owning service tooling
- Kubernetes experience (Helm, Argo CD, EKS) and AWS strongly preferred; Terraform a plus
- Daily use of AI coding tools with clear-eyed understanding of AI limitations in high-security contexts
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain/maintain security clearances
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Security engineering: FIPS cryptography, mTLS, SPIFFE workload identity, policy engines, RMF/ATO compliance
- SRE experience: on-call ownership, observability, incident response for production Kubernetes
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform and GitOps, including air-gapped or on-premise deployments
- Production experience launching agentic services with LLMs, embeddings, and inference
