The Platform team develops core services and cross-cutting products that serve as foundational building blocks for other engineering teams at Rippling. The team owns analytics, customizable workflows, data platforms, reporting, permissions, and custom fields products—all with both customer-facing and internal platform components supporting 10+ product teams.
Rippling has created Rippling Query Language (RQL), a custom programming language that enables customers to write queries and scripts for Formula Fields in the analytics suite, applications in Data Cloud, and to extend functionality across the platform. RQL features its own grammar, parser, query translator, distributed query processing engine, and distributed datastore. This role focuses on the technical challenges of distributed systems and big data technologies.
In this role, you will:
- Work on distributed processing engines and distributed databases
- Develop high-quality backend software using Python, MongoDB, CDC, and Kafka
- Leverage big data technologies including Aurora, Trino, Presto, Pinot, Iceberg, and Flink
- Build custom programming languages within the Rippling Platform
- Create data platforms, data lakes, and data ingestion systems at scale
- Design, develop, code, and test software systems and user-facing experiences
- Collaborate with software architects and senior developers on state-of-the-art development
- Contribute to product design and implementation discussions
- Build unique solutions from idea phase through production
Rippling values in-office collaboration and expects office-based employees (those within a defined radius of a Rippling office) to work in-office at least three days per week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience in backend engineering roles
- Experience writing testable and performant backend code
- Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic environments
- Experience mentoring less-experienced developers
- Ability to thrive with autonomy to explore creative solutions
