Triumph is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and own Rips, a fast-growing mobile collectibles trading card app built in React Native and Expo. You'll work on a product handling real financial transactions, where correctness, latency, and polish are critical—a dropped state update is a serious bug, not a cosmetic issue.
You'll own significant surface area from day one: designing features end-to-end, ensuring native interaction quality, and making technical decisions that stick. In a small team, the person who designs something ships it and owns it afterward.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and owning core product features in React Native and Expo, from design through launch and iteration
- Prioritizing user experience: motion, gestures, transitions, perceived performance, and the details that make an app people use daily
- Going below abstractions when needed: native modules, platform APIs, rendering behavior, build configuration
- Partnering with backend engineers on API and data model design, pushing back when contracts compromise the client experience
- Owning performance and reliability: startup time, frame rate under load, crash-free sessions
- Raising the floor for the team by establishing patterns and technical direction that accelerate future work
You'll work in-person 5 days a week at Triumph's headquarters at Levi's Plaza in San Francisco.
Requirements:
- Strong mobile engineering background; React Native and Expo experience ideal. Native iOS or Android engineers transitioning to React Native are also a good fit.
- Real ownership of consequential work: you can articulate a feature you designed, shipped, and maintain—not just a test coverage metric.
- Deep platform understanding: you know what happens on the device, not just which component to use. You can debug issues the framework doesn't explain.
- Craft: you have opinions about how interactions should feel and can implement them.
- Track record of creating leverage: you establish architecture and guardrails that let mid-level and junior engineers move quickly without breaking things. You articulate technical direction and defend it persuasively.
- Fluency with AI as a tool, not a replacement for understanding. You use it aggressively and can explain every line that ships under your name.
