Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology. Founded in 2016 and backed by over $2B in capital from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, SoftBank, Fidelity, and T. Rowe Price, Nuro is building a universal autonomy platform enabling self-driving vehicles across robotaxis, logistics fleets, and personal vehicles.
The On-Road Experience team owns the real-time distributed systems that power Nuro's ride-hailing product—the infrastructure that matches, dispatches, and routes autonomous vehicles when a rider requests a ride. This is foundational infrastructure where correctness and performance have direct consequences on real roads.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will architect and own critical backend systems including:
- Backend services for ride planning, vehicle matching, and real-time trip execution
- Partner API integrations (Uber and others) routing ride requests to Nuro vehicles
- Telemetry pipelines surfacing live vehicle state to riders and operations teams
You will be responsible for end-to-end product ownership—from requirements through launch and ongoing iteration. This role demands technical excellence, deep system design expertise, and the ability to solve complex distributed systems problems in a safety-critical environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Go proficiency
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems where reliability is non-negotiable
- End-to-end product ownership track record from requirements through launch and iteration
- Solid hands-on experience with GCP (CloudSQL, BigQuery, Redis, or equivalent)
- Track record of technical leadership: setting standards, mentoring others, making hard trade-offs
DESIRABLE:
- Experience with dispatch, fleet, location, or delivery/ride platform systems
- Background building systems where the physical world is the end user
- Domain expertise in vehicle, location, dispatch, inventory, or order/ride/delivery backend services
- Product and business acumen with keen interest in understanding the "why" alongside the "how"
