Aiven is a global team of over 400 people building a cloud data platform that makes open-source databases, search, streaming, and application infrastructure easily accessible. The platform transforms leading open-source technologies into seamless cloud services.
You will join the platform team as a Senior Software Engineer, playing a crucial role in improving the Aiven cloud platform's scalability, reliability, and enterprise experience. This is a senior individual contributor role with mentoring responsibilities.
Key responsibilities:
- Facilitate API design improvements and refactoring efforts to enhance platform functionality and performance
- Write high-quality, maintainable Python code, releasing and monitoring features in production
- Perform peer code reviews and participate in technical discussions across the engineering domain
- Contribute to technical planning, system architecture, feature design, product roadmaps, and backlog management
- Ensure the backend ecosystem maintains strong unit and functional testing coverage
- Advocate for continuous improvements to software quality, platform security, and system performance
- Mentor junior team members to foster technical growth and engineering best practices

REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent software development skills in Python
- Experience interacting directly with one or more cloud provider APIs (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and container orchestration tools
- Familiarity with the Linux networking stack
- Hands-on experience with managed open-source technologies such as Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, OpenSearch, or ClickHouse
- Deep hands-on experience using Linux in both development and production environments
- Strong foundational knowledge of distributed systems and microservices patterns
- Extensive experience managing, scaling, and operating software in production environments
- Solid understanding of backend software security principles and practices
- Strong drive and standard for writing robust automated unit and integration tests
- Fluency in English (written and verbal)
Nice-to-have:
- Hands-on experience managing secrets and encryption keys
- Experience building or configuring automated CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and tracing tooling
- Experience with authorization and authentication protocols in enterprise scenarios and Identity Providers (IDPs)
