TrueML is a mission-driven fintech company building machine-learning-powered financial software to improve customer experiences for distressed borrowers. The company uses digital-first, personalized strategies that adapt in real time based on customer interactions.
The Legacy Performance Improvement team owns and maintains critical business systems that power some of TrueML's highest-revenue projects. This team modernizes, stabilizes, and extends mature platforms while ensuring reliability for dependent teams across the organization.
In this role, you will design, build, and maintain internal tools and services, primarily within legacy systems. You'll contribute to architectural decisions about how to incrementally modernize existing platforms, deliver on high-revenue projects where reliability and performance are critical, and collaborate with stakeholders across engineering and the business. You'll improve the maintainability, testing, and observability of existing codebases, write technical documentation, participate in code reviews, and mentor less-experienced engineers.
Success in this role means shipping meaningful improvements to legacy platforms, taking ownership of services or components, contributing to architectural discussions, earning stakeholder trust through reliable delivery, and serving as a dependable code reviewer and source of technical judgment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production software
- Experience with software architecture, including designing systems and making sound technical trade-offs
- Comfort working in and improving legacy codebases
- Strong programming fundamentals and ability to learn new languages and tools quickly
- Experience with Python
- Experience building services or APIs used by other engineers or internal teams
- Strong communication skills and confidence working on high-visibility projects
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience leading or contributing to legacy system modernization or migration efforts
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), containers, and CI/CD pipelines
