We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Payments team in Stockholm. This is a small, high-ownership team responsible for all payment-related systems: checkout, subscriptions, invoicing, refunds, tax handling, and payment provider integrations. The team operates end-to-end ownership from domain modeling through infrastructure (Terraform, Kubernetes), including on-call responsibilities.
Your primary focus will be architecting and building a new purchase platform in Go—a greenfield subscription domain built alongside the existing system. A critical initiative is safely migrating live paying customers from the legacy system to the new platform without disruption. You'll work closely with Product, Finance, and web teams to ensure seamless checkout experiences.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, build, deploy, and monitor payment and subscription services end-to-end
- Lead development of the next-generation purchase platform in Go
- Build and maintain payment provider integrations, including compliance-heavy features like 3DS and SCA
- Contribute to the customer-facing purchase flow in the web codebase (TypeScript/React) as needed
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-moving, iterative environment
The team embraces AI as part of the daily development toolchain, emphasizing judgment and code review alongside shipping.
Requirements:
- Several years of production backend service development, ideally in domains where correctness is prioritized over speed
- Strong proficiency in Go or Python; ability to become productive in the other
- Solid SQL and relational data modeling skills (Postgres)
- Cloud infrastructure experience, preferably Google Cloud; comfortable owning infrastructure (Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform)
- Sufficient TypeScript and React knowledge to make changes in shared frontend codebases, or genuine interest in learning
- Experience with payments systems (subscriptions, billing, provider integrations, reconciliation) or clear interest in the domain
Nice-to-have:
- Experience migrating billing or payment platforms with live customers
- Familiarity with payment service providers (PSPs), card networks, 3DS, SCA, or PCI compliance
- Event-driven service architecture using Pub/Sub or similar messaging systems
- Practical production experience with AI coding agents and sound judgment about their application
