Roblox is a platform where tens of millions of people explore, create, play, learn, and connect in 3D immersive digital experiences. The Observability team owns the complete telemetry, distributed tracing, and logging stack—including instrumentation libraries, data processing pipelines, storage, and visualization UI—providing vital signals for all software components supporting the platform. In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will work with business partners to define vision and roadmap while leading end-to-end project execution. You'll take full ownership of existing observability infrastructure, ensuring it remains scalable, reliable, and user-friendly while adding new features. A key responsibility is architecting next-generation observability infrastructure capable of handling tens of billions of active time series and petabytes of log and tracing data daily. You'll champion a community-first vision and drive execution across the organization. This is a hybrid role based at Roblox's San Mateo headquarters, requiring in-office presence Tuesday through Thursday, with optional Monday and Friday attendance. Requirements: - 5+ years of professional experience building, maintaining, and evolving large-scale distributed systems - Deep understanding of components required for modern, large-scale infrastructure; ability to own end-to-end availability and performance of critical services to reduce operational overhead - Comfort learning new technologies as the landscape evolves; open source contributions and experience with AI technology for incident detection and mitigation are strong pluses - Passion for mentoring junior engineers, earning their respect, and helping them grow technically - BS in Computer Science or related field (master's degree or higher is a plus)
