Salary: USD 196,750 - 243,290 / annual
Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the Machine Bootstrap pod within the Fleet Management team. This role focuses on provisioning and rebuilding Roblox's global infrastructure across bare metal and cloud environments, managing hundreds of thousands of machines on-premises and in the cloud, including new GPU and AI infrastructure.
You will own the technical direction of MAPI (Machine API), the global system that transforms raw capacity into production-ready infrastructure in minutes. Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the Machine Bootstrap pod in building and evolving provisioning and fleet management at massive scale
• Shipping fleet-wide maintenance operations (BIOS updates, firmware updates, configuration changes) to hundreds of thousands of machines through MAPI
• Driving best-in-class provisioning performance, enabling full machine rebuilds from scratch in minutes
• Evaluating and integrating new hardware platforms, including GPU servers and AI accelerators, into the provisioning pipeline
• Collaborating across Compute, Networking, and Cloud teams on the full machine lifecycle from rack-and-stack to production
This is a critical infrastructure role supporting Roblox's platform, which serves tens of millions of daily users creating and exploring 3D immersive experiences.
Requirements:
• 4+ years of experience with strong expertise in distributed systems and infrastructure
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent field
• Strong proficiency in Go, C/C++, Rust, or other system-level programming languages
• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems that other engineering teams depend on
• Track record of building high-performance automation at fleet scale and reducing toil through developer-friendly APIs
• Familiarity with bare-metal concepts (PXE/iPXE, DHCP, BMC/IPMI/Redfish, OS imaging) is a plus; deep low-level systems experience is a bonus, not a requirement
• Interest in modern server hardware including GPU servers, AI accelerators, and cloud infrastructure
