ARQ is a fast-growing fintech building infrastructure to move value seamlessly across borders. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems powering the company's innovative financial products.
You will focus on greenfield development and improvement of existing systems, including building REST APIs, engineering microservices, and evolving critical business systems such as card payments, treasury management, transactions booking, and crypto liquidity. The technology stack is predominantly Java 25 on the backend with Postgres databases, using Spring Boot for delivery. The team emphasizes clean code, maintainability, and fast turnaround through test-driven development (TDD), domain-driven design (DDD), and continuous integration & delivery.
You will collaborate with a talented, world-class team to create solutions that drive financial inclusion and transform how people manage money globally. This is an early-stage opportunity where every engineer shapes the product, culture, and growth trajectory.
Office policy: 3–4 days per week in-office in London.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrable experience in backend development with fluency in Java
- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other Engineering/Science disciplines
- Quick learner with ambitious, results-driven personality and excellent communication skills (English fluency, verbal and written)
- Track record of building complex products used by millions in hypergrowth startups
