Salary: USD 150,000 - 185,000 / annual
Pie Insurance is transforming commercial insurance for small businesses through technology. The Technology team builds and operates a suite of applications and services that enable direct consumers, partners, and agents to manage commercial insurance policies.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will act as a technical leader and thought partner across the organization, elevating engineering practices and pushing the company forward. You will define and evolve AWS infrastructure using CDK, applying security and compliance practices appropriate to a regulated industry (SOC2, least-privileged IAM, secrets management, network and account boundaries). You'll participate in peer code reviews for both application and infrastructure changes, write clean and maintainable code primarily in TypeScript, and collaborate transparently with product, design, stakeholders, and fellow engineers.
Key responsibilities include: designing and architecting scalable, secure, and robust systems; delivering software using continuous delivery pipelines and contributing to their optimization; assisting support and operations teams with production issue triage and resolution; building highly modular and reusable code adhering to industry standards; participating in on-call rotations with a focus on improving operational stability and system visibility; and leveraging AI-powered development tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as part of your daily workflow.
You will continuously learn and stay current on software engineering best practices and emerging technologies to improve systems and drive the company forward.
**Requirements:**
- Consistently demonstrated expertise in AWS technologies, best practices, and architecture
- Experienced in leveraging AWS CDK in TypeScript
- Deep understanding of network topology (VPC, Security Groups, Route53) and IAM access controls
- Demonstrated ability to craft technical solutions in both greenfield and brownfield projects, exhibiting adaptability, independence, and autonomy
- Expertise with CI/CD best practices and continuous integration/delivery using GitHub
- Strong expertise in backend and infrastructure software engineering, with expertise in TypeScript (C# experience is a plus)
- Proficiency using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) as a core part of your development workflow
