Honeycomb is building observability for AI systems. The company helps customers understand what their AI agents are doing, track costs, identify errors, and debug individual conversations. Honeycomb has closed Series D funding, scaled to 200+ employees, and was named to Forbes' America's Best Startups in 2022 and 2023.
You'll join a small, cross-functional team (engineers, product manager, designer) focused on LLM and agent observability. The team owns both the data foundation and product experiences built on top of it, shipping features customers use in production.
In this role, you will:
- Own end-to-end development of AI observability capabilities, from data ingestion to in-product visualizations
- Architect and evolve the data model and infrastructure for observing agents and their ecosystems across the Honeycomb product
- Build systems that analyze and surface AI-specific signals: cost, token usage, errors, and anomalies
- Collaborate with product and design partners to ensure features are usable, intuitive, and unlock meaningful user workflows
- Teach best practices for exploring and understanding AI system behavior across conversations and workloads
- Iterate through fast feedback loops and experimentation, sharing both wins and failures
- Join the on-call rotation after approximately 90 days
Honeycomb is fully distributed and emphasizes trust, autonomy, and accountability from day one. The company values transparent, level-based compensation and offers generous equity, unlimited PTO, home office/co-working stipends, full benefits, up to 16 weeks paid parental leave, and annual development allowance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Significant software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and owning features end-to-end
- Experience shipping customer-facing features at a SaaS company (beyond internal tooling)
- Full-stack proficiency: backend development in Go and/or Python; frontend development in TypeScript and React
- Track record of working closely with product managers and designers
- Regular, hands-on use of AI tools in day-to-day engineering work
- Experience being on call
- Ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-moving field where requirements shift and experimentation is core
- Bonus: Production experience building LLM or agent-powered features
- Bonus: Hands-on experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry
Note: The company cannot currently sponsor or support visa transfers.
