Honeycomb is a Series D-funded observability platform serving companies like Slack, HelloFresh, LaunchDarkly, and Vanguard. The company was named to Forbes' America's Best Startups in 2022 and 2023, and operates as a fully distributed organization with 200+ employees.
You will join the AI observability team, a small cross-functional group building observability capabilities specifically for LLMs and AI agents. The team owns both the data foundation and product experiences, working closely with a dedicated product manager and designer to ship features customers use in production.
In this role, you will own end-to-end development of AI observability capabilities, from data ingestion through in-product visualizations. You'll architect and evolve the data model and infrastructure that enables observability of agents and their ecosystems across the Honeycomb product. You'll build systems that analyze and surface AI-specific signals such as cost, token usage, errors, and anomalies. Collaboration with product and design partners is central to ensuring what you build is usable, intuitive, and unlocks meaningful user workflows. You'll also teach best practices for exploring and understanding AI system behavior across conversations and workloads, iterate through fast feedback loops, and share both wins and failures transparently.
Honeycomb emphasizes a distributed-first culture with trust, autonomy, and accountability from day one. The company offers generous equity, unlimited PTO, home office and internet stipends, full benefits coverage, up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave, and an annual development allowance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Significant software engineering experience with a record of shipping and owning features end to end
- Experience shipping customer-facing features at a SaaS company (beyond internal tooling)
- Full-stack proficiency: backend development in Go and/or Python; frontend development in TypeScript and React
- Track record of working closely with product managers and designers
- Regular, hands-on use of AI tools in day-to-day engineering work
- Experience being on call (you'd join the rotation after approximately 90 days)
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-moving field where requirements shift and experimentation is core to the job
- Bonus: Experience building LLM or agent-powered features in production
- Bonus: Hands-on experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry
