Carta is a connected platform and AI-native ecosystem for private capital, serving 55,000 companies, 1.8M+ equity holders, and 10,000 funds representing $250B+ in assets under management across 160+ countries.
The Investors business unit is building the system of record for private markets—replacing fragmented spreadsheets, email threads, and disconnected portals with a unified platform. Nearly 7,000 funds and SPVs managing $150B in assets already use it. The team is moving beyond a traditional portal to build a programmable back office where expenses are automatically coded, capital calls are generated from natural language, and K-1 tax filings are ready on day one. The core is proven (90% of cash transactions reconciled in one day), and the focus is now connecting it into a single platform spanning fund financials, tax, and LP reporting.
As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will lead technically complex projects and serve as a technical multiplier for your team. Your responsibilities include:
• Drive Implementation: Lead execution of complex technical projects from concept to production, maintaining high standards for performance and reliability.
• Simplify Systems: Identify opportunities to simplify code and infrastructure with measurable business impact.
• Leverage Modern Tooling: Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate workflow and code quality, focusing on high-level logic and unconventional problems.
• Foster Growth: Mentor peers through diligent code reviews and architectural guidance, raising the technical bar.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product and design to build the right solution for users.
You'll be hired into the Investors business unit and matched to a focus area based on your strengths and interests:
• Fund Financials: Ledger, expense allocation, and cash reconciliation at scale.
• Tax and Compliance: K-1s, KYC, and audit trails—compliance as code.
• LP Management and Reporting: Capital calls, distributions, PCAPs, and tearsheets.
The team blends startup-style speed with the rigor required for software that moves real money.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience with (or willingness to learn) core technologies: Python, Django, React, Postgres, and Kafka; also uses Java, gRPC, and AWS
• Ability to break down complex user stories into actionable tasks and execute with minimal guidance
• Strategic mindset: understand the "why" behind code and articulate technical trade-offs to stakeholders
