Carta is the connected platform and AI-native ecosystem for private capital, trusted by 55,000 companies and 1.8M+ equity holders across 160+ countries. The Investors business unit builds the system of record for private markets—ledger, books, tax filings, LP reporting, and deal pipeline—all in one connected platform. Nearly 7,000 funds and SPVs representing $150B in assets already use this platform. You'll join a pivotal moment for the business unit. The core is proven (90% of cash transactions reconciled in one day), and the team is now connecting it into a single platform that runs from fund financials to tax to LP reporting. You'll work in small, senior teams that blend startup-style speed with the rigor of software that moves real money. As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will lead technically complex projects and serve as a multiplier for your team. Your responsibilities include: • Drive Implementation: Lead the execution of complex technical projects from concept to production while maintaining high standards for performance and reliability. • Simplify Systems: Identify opportunities to simplify code and infrastructure, prioritizing changes with measurable business impact. • Leverage Modern Tooling: Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate your workflow and improve code quality, spending more time on high-level logic and unconventional problems. • Foster Growth: Act as a mentor and coach, raising the technical bar for peers through diligent PR reviews and architectural guidance. • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product and design to ensure you're building the right solution for users. Focus areas include Fund Financials (ledger, expense allocation, cash reconciliation), Tax and Compliance (K-1s, KYC, audit trails), and LP Management and Reporting (capital calls, distributions, PCAPs, tearsheets). REQUIREMENTS: • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience • Experience with (or desire to learn) core technologies: Python, Django, React, Postgres, and Kafka; also utilize Java, gRPC, and AWS • Ability to break down complex user stories into actionable tasks and execute with minimal guidance • Strategic mindset: understand the "why" behind your code and articulate technical trade-offs to stakeholders
